    Combining the best of freelancing and employment

    Mavericks was born to an actual need. In the beginning of 2018 Talented Solutions, heavily involved in tech recruiting in Finland, realized there was a clear gap in the offering to IT talent. IT consultancy revolved around so-called Great Place to Work companies and their mimics. Fixed salary, lots of extracurricular activities, fancy offices. On the other hand, freelancing was on the rise. What Talented realized is that there was no viable option in between such consultancies and freelancing. If it doesn’t exist, create it – and that’s how the idea of Mavericks was born. 

    The idea of Mavericks is to combine the best of freelancing and employment. We built the whole company around paying as much salary as possible to the consultants – 70% of the money our consultants bring in is directly used to paying them salary, leading to substantially higher salaries than in traditional consultancies. Another perk from the freelancing world is freedom – our consultants are free to work as they please, from where they please and how much they please – as long as the customer is happy. 4-day work weeks with the salary of a regular full time employee is totally doable. 

    Our consultants are not entrepreneurs but employees so we offer them guaranteed base salary, paid vacations and paid sick leaves – something freelancers have no access to. We also provide them with work equipment and all administrative structure, enabling them to focus on what they love – software development. Most importantly our sales team keeps on feeding our consultants with a constant stream of interesting project opportunities.

    We have always believed that if we are able to attract good talent, there will always be business. That’s why we have built the company around its core asset – the consultants, and how to get them.

    Mavericks is one of the fastest growing software consultancies in the history of Finland. In 2021 we grew from 30 to 70 employees and our target is to be 120 strong by the end of 2022. What we offer for our kind of IT professionals is extremely competitive and nowadays there are copycat companies emerging from left and right. Two years of Covid has changed how we work, further advocating freedom and responsibility – our core values – over traditional governance models. 

    The demand for what we offer – individual consultants to our clients’ project – is constantly on the rise as digital transformation of all companies proceeds.

    Customers don’t pay for our brand, they pay for the consultants

    Our customers are digitally mature companies that run their software development by themselves. Digital services are not under IT but integral part of their core business. We offer them experienced and motivated consultants that help them realize their ambitions. 

    Most companies are constantly looking for experienced software developers but the market is extremely competitive. With the help of our consultants, our customers can quickly scale up (and down) their development teams as needed. By leading the development efforts themselves, our customers make sure that they retain ownership and full control over their products and services. 

    We offer our customers cost effective access to our experienced talents. Our customers don’t pay for our brand, they pay for the consultants and it is the consultants themselves who reap the rewards of their own hard work.

    Working at Mavericks

    Nowadays Mavericks has 70 consultants and an administrative team of 10. The business is simple – we do great job in our customers’ projects, we hire new talent, we find our people great projects and do our best to make sure everyone’s as happy as possible.

    Our average consultant is in his/her late 30’s, has life outside of work and is quite capable of working independently. They usually have one project each, 100% allocation, meaning that all work they do is invoiceable customer work. On average, our consultants work 34h/week and earn well above 7000e/month.

    Besides customer work we have regular, optional get togethers where our experts get to meet other experts and spend some time together. Even though Mavericks is not about hanging out together all day and evening, there’s tremendous value in people meeting each other every once in a while. As per our consultants, it is easier to ask help from colleagues that you know so that’s what we want to facilitate, too, for those who want it.
