Codemate is a core member of the Fusion Ecosystem, dedicated to helping companies go forward with their digital development projects. Based in Helsinki, Oulu, Jyväskylä, and Bangkok, our team of 95 talented designers and developers collaborates with clients like Google and Netflix, as well as forward-thinking domestic and international companies, to create world-class digital products.
Roots in the North and international presence since 2007
Over the past 17 years, Codemate has evolved through a couple of essential phases. Our founders, Toni Piirainen and Jukka Katajaharju, who remain actively involved in the company’s leadership, were once globe-trotting tech experts for the same employer. Burned out by relentless travel, they envisioned a better way of working – one that prioritises well-being while attracting the industry’s best talent.
In 2007, Codemate was born, simultaneously in the cold North of Finland and the warmth of Southeast Asia. From the beginning, our connection to Asia has set us apart from other cool tech agencies in Finland. You could say we embraced remote work from sunny beaches before it became a trend. Our Northern hub in Oulu remains our spiritual home, influencing the culture and values of all our offices. This “Northern way” of working – grounded, collaborative, and practical – is part of our DNA.
Expanding horizons: Helsinki and Jyväskylä
In 2014, the author of this story took the leap from Oulu’s snow-covered streets to the rainy sidewalks of Helsinki to establish our Southern office. Quickly, Codemate carved out a niche in the competitive Helsinki IT consultancy scene. Today, Helsinki is our primary business base and an integral part of our operations.
Fast forward to spring 2024: we took another significant step by acquiring Upsert, a dynamic software development company. This move expanded our presence to Jyväskylä, right in the heart of Finland.

At its core, what we offer is quite straightforward: expert teams delivering the web and mobile applications our customers need.
Our services – Design, Code, and Care – are tailored to meet real-world client demands. Some customers prefer end-to-end results rather than managing teams or backlogs themselves. That’s where our agile teams excel. With over 1,000 projects under our belt, we have a proven track record of delivering value.
This no-nonsense approach, combined with deep technical expertise, has taken us far from home to work with global clients. Among our highlights are designing and developing the user interface for Netflix’s data science tool and improving the Flutter developer experience for Google’s global community.
