Uhma Solutions – Development partner for the financial industry

The idea of Uhma got started when two development-minded portfolio managers, Saku Sairanen and Santtu Saijets, realized there is an underlying need for talent and resources in developing financial organizations.

In the past, the industry was known for being conservative to adopt new ways of working. Luckily, the culture has been changing rapidly in a healthier direction, but many challenges remain difficult to solve such as navigating the challenging regulatory environment and the ability to apply the latest technologies and new processes to legacy systems. Also, most of the time finance professionals need to focus on their core domain, and supporting tasks like documentation, process visualization, and data management don’t always get enough resources.

In their investment organization, Saku and Santtu struggled to balance their time and resources between investment management, and development projects. They knew that part of their success came from understanding how systematic process development, data management, and documentation supported their investment practice. They saw that having development work better aligned with their core business was an increasingly important part of their organization’s success. 

As time went on, they became confident in their insight: their industry needed a competent partner for helping organizations in topics like transparency, process development, documentation practices, and data management. The optimal partner should understand both the industry as well as technology and of course be bold enough to bring the culture of systematic development to organizations rather than promote the latest trends.

Both being trained mathematicians and engineers they decided it was time to do something about the problem that no one talks about, but which has been there already for quite some time. Before long they sat down and started drafting a business plan for a consultancy that would focus on the development needs of finance professionals.

There the idea of Uhma was born. Fast forward to 2022 and Uhma’s Helsinki office was opened, and the first clients were in. Now, Helsinki has an all-inclusive advisory for asset managers and finance professionals to find competent partners to help them succeed in their development projects.

In a nutshell, we use a technology-driven approach to help our clients to improve processes and tools that they need for succeeding their core business whether it was investing, middle office operations, or treasury management. Our mission is to help our clients to turn their ambitions into concrete outcomes by designing and implementing solutions in a structured and reliable manner.
